Our Mission
Word puzzle games stimulate cognition, enhance vocabulary, and bring people together across generations. Our goal is to provide a clean, uncluttered, and lightning-fast tool that helps players discover words, test patterns, study anagram solutions, and improve their game strategies without intrusive ads and sluggish performance common on legacy word websites.
Word Database & Methodology
Transparency is fundamental to our platform. We document our underlying word sources, categorization criteria, and calculation models so users understand exactly how our tools generate results.
1. Primary Data Source: ENABLE1 Lexicon
Our core word list is compiled from the ENABLE1 (Enhanced North American Benchmark Lexicon) English word list. Created in 1997 by Alan Beale and contributors, ENABLE1 is a respected public-domain benchmark vocabulary specifically assembled for digital word games, puzzle software, and anagram solvers. In our active dataset, ENABLE1 supplies 172,704 unique words spanning lengths 2 through 20.
2. Dataset Scope & Normalization Rules
Every word in our dataset is standardized according to strict lexical criteria:
- Alphabetical Characters Only: All entries contain exclusively the standard 26 English letters (A–Z) in lowercase.
- No Proper Nouns: Capitalized names of people, cities, countries, and trademarked brands (e.g., London, Mary) are excluded.
- No Punctuation or Symbols: Hyphenated compound terms (e.g., well-being) and contractions requiring apostrophes (e.g., don't, can't) are omitted.
- No Abbreviations or Acronyms: Shortened forms and acronyms without standard word status are excluded.
- Length Scope: Covers words from 2 to 20 letters. Single-letter words and terms longer than 20 letters are not indexed.
3. Word-Length Coverage & Distribution

4. Common-Word Classification Methodology
In our search tools and solver views, users can switch between Common Words and All Words:
- Classification Corpus: A word is tagged as
common: trueif and only if it appears in the widely recognized Google 10,000 English frequency list (derived from Google Web Trillion Word Corpus n-grams). - Active Coverage: Across our full 172,704-word list, exactly 8,109 entries qualify as common words, including 1,178 five-letter words.
- Practical Application: Daily puzzles like Wordle almost always select common, conversational vocabulary for solutions. Toggling “Common Words Only” helps players focus on realistic guesses, while “All Words” reveals the complete vocabulary for Scrabble, crosswords, and anagram exploration.
5. Scrabble Scoring Methodology
Point values displayed next to words reflect the standard English Scrabble tile face values:
The score shown for each word is its base tile sum (e.g., Q(10) + U(1) + I(1) + Z(10) = 22 points). Our tools display this base calculation and do not incorporate board-specific premium multipliers (double/triple letter or word squares).
6. Build & Update Architecture
Our website uses static generation via Astro. Word data files are structured as static JSON datasets grouped by length. When pages are generated at build time, all counts, letter aggregations, and high-scoring words are calculated directly from these source files:
- Zero Hardcoded Counts: Displayed counts are generated dynamically at build time, eliminating stale or contradictory metrics.
- Fast Delivery: Precomputed pages load in milliseconds without database latency or third-party tracking scripts.
- Repeatable Builds: The compilation process is fully automated via build scripts in our repository.
7. Limitations & Tournament Disclaimers
To maintain full academic and gaming integrity, please note the following limitations of our word dataset:
- Not an Official Tournament Adjudication Dictionary: While ENABLE1 shares significant overlap (~95%+) with tournament word lists, official competitive Scrabble in North America is governed by the NASPA Word List (NWL), and international competitive play uses Collins Official Scrabble Words (CSW). For sanctioned tournament matches, players should consult official NASPA or WESPA adjudication tools.
- Not a Comprehensive General Dictionary: Our dataset is an anagram and game lexicon. It does not provide definitions, grammatical parts of speech, etymology, or pronunciation guides.
- Living Language: English evolves continuously with new colloquialisms, technical terms, and loanwords. While ENABLE1 serves as a stable digital benchmark, it may not contain recently coined slang or modern internet terminology.
